Our Story
Thinking back to when we first met is still one of our fondest memories and the beginning of the most important journey of our lives. We began dating in February 2021 while we were both in Atlanta. Akash was finishing his time at Georgia Tech and Roshini was preparing to start medical school.
What started as a simple connection quickly grew into something much deeper, and before long, our journey together truly began.
Soon after, we moved to Boston, where Akash started his first job out of college and Roshini worked as a medical assistant. During this time, we continued to grow together and began building many of the friendships and communities that have become such an important part of our lives today.
After a year being in the same place, we faced what would become our biggest challenge yet: long distance. And not just any long distance. Roshini was beginning an exciting new chapter by starting medical school in Australia. It turns out that Boston and Australia are almost antipodes, the literal geographic opposite points on the earth. We were about as physically far apart as two people could be without leaving the planet.
While daunting, we both knew we had found something truly special in each other and were determined to make it work. We chose to focus on our individual goals, build meaningful lives in our respective cities, strengthen our communication, and embrace the opportunity to explore the world together whenever we could.
And explore the world we did. Over those years, we traveled all over the United States, explored Canada, journeyed through Australia, visited Bali, returned to our roots in India, ventured to Iceland, and experienced so many corners of the world together. Each trip became another chapter in our story and another reminder of why the distance was worth it.
After Roshini’s time in Australia, she returned to the United States to complete the final two years of medical school. Being back on the same side of the world allowed us to continue building our relationship while still making time for adventure and exploration.
On July 14, 2025, we began the next chapter of our story in the most meaningful place. In her final year of medical school, Roshini returned to Brisbane for a six week rotation and Akash flew out to visit. One evening, during a sunset walk along the Brisbane River before dinner, Roshini stumbled upon a surprise picnic Akash had set up by the Kangaroo Cliffs overlooking the Brisbane skyline, complete with a sign that read, “Will you marry me?” In a beautifully full circle moment, the place that once kept us as far apart as possible became the place where we chose forever together.
Our journey has been filled with many stops and unforgettable memories. Through it all, we have grown to appreciate each other more deeply, built incredible communities across different places, and experienced the world in ways we never imagined.
Now, on May 23rd, we take the next step from engaged to married. We feel so grateful that our families and friends we made along the way have embraced each of us so fully and are now coming together in one place to celebrate with us as we say the most important yes of our lives.
